KIRTLEY MODEL BUILDINGS

Welcome to the Kirtley Model Buildings website. I specialise in handbuilt model buildings in all scales and model railway scenery and dioramas in all scales from 4mm scale to Gauge 3.
DIORAMAS
A Diorama is a non working section of layout used for displaying models. It can vary from a simple three foot long shelf with a low backscene ideal for photographing models, up to a completely detailed replica of a real station as in the model of Birmingham Snow Hill illustated below.

To commission a diorama please e-mail me with your proposal.

DIORAMA VARIETY

A diorama is the ideal place to photograph your models, especially if it is small enough to carry outside to make use of natural light. This 7mm scale model is of Horns Bridge near Chesterfield.

A SMALL PHOTOGRAPHIC DIORAMA

This simple small diorama is ideal for photographing locomotives and stock, and when not being used for that it is small enough to be used indoors to display models.

If you get close up with the camera the effect can be very realistic.

A 00 SCALE DIORAMA

This diorama was unusual; it depicts Arley station on the Severn Valley line, but as it was when the BBC series 'Oh Dr Beeching' was filmed so it includes the cottages that were erected for the filming. It is 00 gauge and is six feet long. Because the line curves, the boards were made to accommodate this.

THE OTHER END OF THE SCALE!

This diorama of Birmingham Snow Hill is fourteen feet long on four boards and depicts the station in 1930.
